Product Description
Overview
Our 19-Layer Multi Foil Insulation is a quilted, flexible reflective blanket engineered for high-performance building envelopes. By combining low-emissivity aluminium/metallized skins (e ≤ 0.05) with lofted cores that create multiple still-air pockets, the product simultaneously reduces radiative and convective heat transfer while providing a neat vapour/air control layer when sealed correctly. It is lightweight, clean to handle, and especially suitable for retrofits in roofs, walls, and floors where space is limited but a significant thermal upgrade is required.
How It Works
Heat moves through building fabric via conduction, convection, and radiation. Traditional bulk insulation mainly addresses conduction by trapping air in a thick matrix. Multi-foil insulation introduces a second line of defence: radiant control. Our lowe surfaces reflect longwave radiation back toward the source, while inner waddings and foam spacers maintain separation between foils to reduce conductive paths and stabilize air cells. When installed with unventilated air cavities on one or both sides, the system can achieve a high effective Rvalue according to EN 16012 methodology. The roll format speeds up handling and reduces waste, delivering cleaner jobsites and faster programs.
Thermal Performance & Emissivity
The declared emissivity e ≤ 0.05 of the outer skins is key to radiant barrier performance. In buildups tested under EN 16012 methodologies, multifoil systems with two unventilated cavities can reach system Rvalues up to 3.0-3.5 m²·K/W (installationdependent). The product's core thermal resistance (without air spaces) typically falls in the 1.0-1.5 m²·K/W range, determined by the exact layup and thickness. Realworld results depend on cavity depth, boundary conditions, and workmanship; we therefore recommend retaining design air cavities, sealing all laps with matching foil tape, and using counterbattens to maintain consistent thickness.
Breathable vs. NonBreathable Options
We supply two configurations to fit different envelope strategies:
• Nonbreathable (Vapour Control Layer): High Sd ≥ 100 m resists water vapour transmission, helping prevent interstitial condensation when positioned on the warm side and combined with correct ventilation elsewhere.
• Breathable version: Sd 0.1-0.5 m, suited to breathable roof/wall buildups where outward drying is required. Watertightness to W1 can be achieved at the overlaps when taped.
Selecting the proper version depends on climate, position in the buildup, and the overall condensation risk analysis. Our technical team can advise on dewpoint calculations and local code alignment.
Applications
• Roofs: Underrafter insulation for pitched roofs, warm roof overlays, dormers and loft conversions where headroom matters.
• Walls: Timber/steel frame infill or internal lining on masonry for retrofit; garden rooms and modular buildings.
• Floors: Suspended timber floors and crawl spaces where insulation depth is restricted; aboveslab reflective layer under floating floors.
• Ancillary: Garage conversions, sheds, outbuildings, van conversions (nonhabitable), packaging and industrial radiant shielding.
Installation Highlights
1) Preparation: Substrates must be dry and clean. Plan roll layout to minimize joints.
2) Fixing: Install horizontally or vertically. For roofs, fix under rafters; for walls, fix over studs/battens.
3) Overlap & Seal: Maintain ≥100 mm overlap. Seal all laps, penetrations and perimeter edges with matching foil tape to ensure continuity of vapour/air control.
4) Air Cavities: Preserve unventilated cavities as specified - commonly 20-25 mm either side - using counterbattens before lining.
5) Compression & Lining: Gently compress with battens to achieve flatness; avoid excessive compression that reduces loft and system Rvalue.
6) Services & Penetrations: Use service battens to avoid unnecessary punctures. Seal around pipes, cables and fixings with tape or compatible sealants.
7) Compatibility: Avoid prolonged contact with wet concrete, bitumen or copper. Protect cut edges; use stainless/galvanized fixings.
8) Safety: Cut with a sharp knife and straightedge; wear gloves and eye protection.
Fire Performance
The typical reactiontofire for the multifoil product is Euroclass E to EN 135011. Higher classifications may be achievable in system buildups or via FRenhanced versions depending on local regulations and lining materials; consult us for the appropriate design route. Always follow national codes regarding linings, cavities and services.
Airtightness & Moisture Control
When fully taped, the product forms a continuous air and vapour layer, significantly reducing uncontrolled air leakage and associated convective heat loss. In nonbreathable configurations the Sd ≥ 100 m contributes to a robust VCL strategy on the warm side of the insulation. For breathable assemblies, choose the permeable version (Sd 0.1-0.5 m) and combine with a suitable weatherproof layer externally. In all cases, aim for continuity with adjacent membranes at junctions.
Testing & Compliance
The 19layer multifoil insulation is manufactured under quality control with EN 16012 as the key assessment methodology for multilayer reflective products. Fire classification follows EN 135011. Where the product is configured as a vapour control layer, CEmarking under EN 13984 can be supported (where applicable) with a Declaration of Performance. For breathable roof applications, relevant EN 13859 parameters may be referenced depending on the exact variant. Contact us for current test reports and guidance for your target market.
Sustainability & Comfort
Slimbuild performance helps reduce material usage compared to deep cavity infills. Clean installation, minimal dust, and reduced waste support healthier jobsites. The radiant barrier effect also improves summer comfort, reflecting external heat load outwards in hot weather while retaining indoor warmth during winter.
OEM & Private Label
We specialize in OEM supply: custom layups (e.g., outer colour films, reinforced scrims), widths/lengths, printed logos and branded packaging. Whether you are a distributor looking for a privatelabel reflective quilt or an installer seeking a projectspecific solution, our team provides fast sampling, stable lead times (typically 7-15 days from artwork/PO for standard specs) and exportgrade packing.
